Community Habilitation – Individual (CHIO)

COMMUNITY-BASED HABILITATION - INDIVIDUAL (CHIO) are services outside the individual’s home intended to build relationships and increase independence and overall quality of life. We focus on socialization, self-care, sensory/motor development, daily living skills, communication, community living and social skills.

Examples of activities integrated with CHIO include leisure or recreational activities, cultural events, spiritual practices, education and training, promotion of health and wellness, participating in volunteer-run activities and company-sponsored activities and events. We also put an emphasis on orientation, mobility and destination training, along with navigation of public transportation routes.
